Gaze
Direction and Editing: Purnima Bhutoria
Duration: 8mins 34 sec
Work Description: Direction, Editing
‘Gaze’ chronicles the shift in family life due to pandemic, as witnessed by the filmmaker. There are CCTV cameras installed in their house. The cameras were installed in order to watch over the house in absence of the residents, and prevent or detect crime. While one may assume the absoluteness of the surveillance footage, the filmmaker attempts to explore the footage as a tool to make sense of the world around her – one where there’s no absolute truth, just varied perspectives. Here we experience the surveillance footage through the eyes of the filmmaker. The film in itself becomes a record of personal history and re-enactment of personal memory through artistic mediation.
